To recover from yesterday’s excessive miles we took it easy today. A slow morning of packing food for my next section and deciding what things can be sent home.

We drove out east to Mono Lake which has been drying up since water was diverted away to Los Angeles in 1941. The lake has no outlet so like the Dead Sea the salts get left behind when the water evaporates and now it’s about 2.5 times saltier than the ocean.
